The following blog was written by my Yogi mentor and friend Lura. I think it is relevant to all
When life is throwing us off balance and we feel anxious or stressed, we can use our breathing to calm us and find our equilibrium again.
We can’t always stop what is happening to us or around us but we can always control how we react, how we cope. And that makes it less likely we will panic or feel anxious.
The world will not stop turning while we get realigned.
It is not weak or admitting defeat to take a rest and focus on ourselves for a while…
What if after this we step out of the shadows and dare to be fearlessly authentic.
Those who truly love us will smile and those who don’t, don’t matter.
What if we let go a little of security, free our chains of expectation and judgement.
Maybe we will enable others to do the same.
What if we feel the fear but leap anyway and live out our dreams?
You are writing your life story…
Make sure the best is yet to come!
The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, he said:
“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.
And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present;
the result being that he does not live in the present or the future;
he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly. ”
Wellness or optimal well-being is not just the absence of illness or disease in our bodies.
And we cannot attain it by simply attending yoga or running and eating a healthy diet.
For true holistic health and equilibrium we need to connect our minds to our bodies and to consider wellness as multi dimensional.
If we say we don’t have time now, at some point we seem to have no choice as our bodies decide for us.
Run. Stretch. Smile at a stranger.
Breathe. Inhale slowly through your nose, feel the oxygen hit.
Now exhale the toxins out slowly.
Make eye-contact. Be present. Be grateful. Create.
Make mistakes, big ones. Learn. Don’t look back.
Know your worth. Live the moment. Dare to love fiercely.
When you are most afraid…leap.
